Sentinel Galvanic Anodes

SENTINEL GALVANIC ANODES are designed to mitigate the corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete. Their principal function is to counteract the “anode ring effect” (see CORROSION PREVENTION brochure) and significantly extend the service life of concrete repairs. They are used in locations where new concrete or concrete repair materials are placed adjacent to existing chloride-contaminated concrete. SENTINEL anodes generate an effective current to the surrounding reinforcing steel, thus protecting the steel from corrosion. SENTINEL GL contains 38 grams of zinc. For projects where more zinc is required, SENTINEL SILVER contains over 100 grams of zinc, and SENTINEL GOLD contains a massive 200 grams of zinc.

Product Description

Sentinel Galvanic Anodes are engineered to provide long-lasting, self-generating cathodic protection for reinforcing steel embedded in concrete. Unlike traditional corrosion control methods, these anodes do not require external power sources, making them a simple yet highly effective solution. They are commonly used where new concrete meets chloride-contaminated concrete, as well as in high-risk environments where corrosion is already present. Consequently, Sentinel anodes help extend the service life of concrete structures while reducing ongoing maintenance costs.

Each anode contains high-purity zinc and delivers a consistent electrical current to the surrounding steel reinforcement. As a result, this counteracts the corrosion process and preserves the integrity of the steel. Additionally, the Sentinel series includes multiple options to suit various needs. For example, Sentinel GL provides 38g of zinc, Sentinel SILVER offers over 100g, and Sentinel GOLD delivers an impressive 200g of zinc for heavy-duty protection. Furthermore, the anodes feature a unique v-notch design that conforms to the patch shape and ensures secure placement without excessive labor.

Key Features & Benefits of Sentinel Galvanic Anodes

  • Provides the highest self-generated current of any cathodic device on the market
  • Reduces installation labor by allowing use with up to 30,000 ohm-cm resistivity repair materials
  • Fits easily into nearly any repair zone due to compact v-notch housing design
  • Prevents “current dumping” thanks to a durable internal tie-bar system
  • Installs using galvanized wire ties that won’t rust, thus ensuring a lasting connection
  • Designed to protect steel for 10 to 20 years* based on exposure and conditions

Typical Applications of Sentinel Galvanic Anodes

  • Parking garages and podium decks
  • Bridge decks, piers, and abutments
  • Balconies, exposed slabs, and marine structures
  • Any transition zone from old to new concrete

Packaging & Compliance

Each Sentinel GL box includes 20 units, while Sentinel SILVER and Sentinel GOLD are packaged in boxes of 10. Moreover, all models comply with ASTM B418 Type II, ASTM A82, ASTM B6/B69, and are backed by U.S. patents 6,217,742, 6,958,116, and 7,488,410. For best results, store in a dry area prior to use.
