3M™ Fire and Water Barrier Tape

3M™ Fire and Water Barrier Tape is an elastomeric fire, water, smoke, and sound tape. When installed properly it can act as a barrier to water leakage and airborne sound transmission, while helping to control the transmission of fire, heat and smoke.3M™ Fire and Water Barrier Tape can provide up to 4-hours of fire protection in construction joints per ASTM E 1966 (UL 2079), 3-hour fire protection in perimeter joints per ASTM E 2307 and 2-hour fire protection in through-penetration applications per ASTM E 814 (UL 1479).

Product Description

3M™ Fire and Water Barrier Tape is a high-performance elastomeric sealant tape engineered to protect building systems against fire, water, smoke, and noise. Designed for construction joints, through penetrations, and perimeter applications, it adheres instantly with high-tack bonding—even to damp surfaces.

Key Benefits

  • Multi-Barrier Protection: Up to 4 hours of fire resistance in construction joints (ASTM E1966/UL 2079), 3 hours in perimeter joints (ASTM E2307), and 2 hours in through penetrations (ASTM E814/UL 1479).
  • Water-Tight Seal: Immediately acts as a barrier against water intrusion and minimizes airborne sound (STC 54).
  • High-Tack Adhesive: Bonds effectively to a wide array of materials, including damp substrates; exceeds AAMA 711 peel adhesion standards.
  • Wide Temp Range: Can be installed from 0 °F (–18 °C) to 120 °F (49 °C); remains serviceable up to broad temperature extremes.
  • Acoustic Barrier: Helps reduce noise transmission due to its STC 54-rated performance.

Best For

  • Construction joint firestopping
  • Perimeter joint sealing (curtain wall systems)
  • Through-penetration fire & smoke protection
  • Water intrusion prevention
  • Noise attenuation in walls and floors
  • Fast-track builds requiring immediate sealing
